Re: Sad News About Our Friend Mr. Wizard/Richard W.
Very sad news. Richard’s posts in the Joke of the day thread brightened many of my days and put a smile on my face, let’s hope his being a member of the forum did the same for him. He will be greatly missed!

Re: Jumping Die
I’ve also found what I believe to be the same effect under a different name called Rib-Block. See here: https://www.martinsmagic.com/allmagic/stage/rib-blok-leslie-by-jay-leslie/. Notice the very clever use of the tacks on this version, it means the containment box can be made without any extra addi...

Re: Jumping Die
Sometimes a solution comes to you when you least expect it! I’ve been just going about my day when inspiration hit me and I ran back and re-watched the video! Wow!!! Simple but very clever and that now reveals the missing piece of the puzzle! Amazing little trick, and wonderful misdirection! Love it!

Jumping Die
I find this particular effect to be very puzzling. Watching the video, I can understand what has to happen, but can’t grasp how it is happening! I love the simplicity of the props and the fact that everything can be examined!

Re: Houdini's Torture Cell
Rob that’s cool to hear! I assume your Saturn puzzle looks something like the picture below. It’s known as a Kumiki puzzle, and is Japanese for “to join wood together”. Very cool to hear your interested in puzzles. There is a great Discord group dedicated to mechanical puzzles. If your interested I ...

Re: Houdini's Torture Cell

Houdini’s torture cell was designed as a sequential discovery puzzle, where thought and creative thinking le...

Re: Houdini's Torture Cell
Hi Olaf, I’m very good friends with Brian Young the designer of the Houdini’s Torture Cell puzzle. Brian designed the puzzle as a sequential discovery puzzle, meaning that as it’s solved parts are found that are then used as tools in its solution. Chris Ramsay’s “dexterity” solve is neither elegant ...

Re: Magic House Book
Most of these types of puzzles are made with laser cut birch plywood. In general plywood is made from multiple layers of wood glued together which makes them relatively robust, and depending on how small the part is shouldn’t break too easily.
