Re: Magic Wagon - Phantom Block Penetration
Yes, it is a very nice item and easy to do. Another member told me that Thomas Pohle also made a similar item called China Block Penetration. I have no idea how the new MW item works. I think many will buy due to the nice wood decor.

Re: Magic Wagon - Phantom Block Penetration
Olaf, as you know I will soon be selling my items via auction. I have all packed with instructions and I just don't want to take things apart for photos. The item uses a chimney and a block that has 2 nesting pieces. The nesting is very good but can't be examined. I thnk some are getting this vesion...

Re: Magic Wagon - Phantom Block Penetration
I have a similar item called The Houdini Block which was imported from Germany and sold by Collector’s Workshop. It is made of heavy plastic and I think the price was $69. It is very deceptive and one of my favorite items.

Re: Mystic Mirror - Magic Wagon
I sold the Hughes version many years ago so I don't recall the exact performance. However, I think the glass/frame was removed from the stand. Then the 2 star traps were hinged downward and all was shown on both sides with nothing to hide. I could be wrong? I did not think the new MW version could b...

Re: Mystic Mirror - Magic Wagon
I had the original effect by Jack Hughes. Unlike the Hughes and Pagoda Mystery, the frame with glass or mirror remains stationary. It is not removed/inserted into the stand. This type of effect is very visual and looks impossible. Maybe, the new MW version can also be exameind?

Olaf, I thought I sent this earlier, but I don't see it? So here it is again. I too had the Gerlitz item and I think one of his best items (especially the docor). Usually, the vanished box is produced after the vanish and the items removed from box. I did not see this in your video and I also notice...

I had this trick made by Douglas-Wayne. I think their version looked nicer than the Mikame and probaby better made. However, the Douglas-Wayne setup and the use of sand was not good.

Re: Huitzilopochtli by Thomas Pohle
I would think that the circular piece has a portion that slides and presents a gap. I noticed some upward/downawrd movement when using the other portions to fasten all in place. I think a viewer would want to examine!! Maybe if it had a good locking mechanism then it would be better. But, I doubt th...

Re: Huitzilopochtli by Thomas Pohle
I like the effects made by Bottcher better than the later Pohle releases. Actually, I am unsure if Pohle also made the earlier Bottcher effects? They were sold by Stevens Magic about 15 years ago. I had 4 of those Bottcher effects and the quality was very good. Like you said (and others), the newer ...

I also broke the stick so the stick is 1/2” shorter. The reduced size stick still can be used. I also found a toothpick type stick (used to hold fruit in a drink) that was a little too thick I sanded it down and it fits the tube well and is close to length of original. I am trying to sell this item ...

Re: Magic Wagon - Chinese Lion Mystery
Since I have the Warren Hamilton Westgate Bowl production, I also skipped this MW item. However, even if I did not have the Westgate, I don't think I would have purchased. I think the production is too small. Seems like it could almost be palmed or have a pouch in the silk. I think this type of effe...

Re: Magic Wagon - Chinese Lion Mystery
John, I agree with no photo showing foulard comment. Every illustration from past magic catalogues showing this effect included the covering foulard. It is important to show that covering. Otherwise it seems like a miracle production. Bob

Re: Magic Wagon - Chinese Lion Mystery
Some comments on the older Westgate Bowl Production: - some versions were able to produce both silks and a bowl of water - the Hamilton version did not require an assistant. At the start the foulard was wrapped around the tube cover and the all was seen resting on a table. There were no legs as in t...

Re: Magic Wagon - Chinese Lion Mystery
Hi, I have the Westgate Bowl production made by Warren Hamilton. It is a classic stage type effect and has great oriental decor (as all Hamilton items have). It does require some careful handling. The production is a bowl of water. The Aldini version (to me) seems like a lower quality item than the ...

I have both the Milson-Worth & Original Ed Massey (purchased directly from Massey about 50 years ago) Chinese Flame Clocks. It is a great effect and should be a must piece for a magic collector. It is an effect that fooled by Dad which was not easy. Both versions work the same and I doubt that there...

Rob, your effect is much better than others!! The Thayer effect can be seen on the Andy Martin web-site. I just mentioned that the Thayer effect and others have a similar effect but not the workings. Although, I do think they all use a card bend. Your effect looks super convincing and I like it.

Re: Carpenter's Revenge
I believe this effect was based on the Thayer “Penetrative Card Frame”. It is listed in the Thayer 1941 Catalog 9 Vol. 1 for $2.50. The effect is similar to the more recent versions, but all can be examined before/after the penetration. It is not self-contained. I never had the effect, but I think a...

Re: The mysterious Cube of Chung Fu
Hi, I bought this item when it was 1st released and sold it years later. Essentially, the 1st part is where the top/bottom colors of the cube mysteriously reverse. This is done twice. Finally, the performer asks if the spectator can guess the top color of the cube after the performer places it into ...

Hi, many years ago Len Sewell made a similar block appearance. Later a few magic builders re-created the effect. I can't say if this version has a similar working. I did notice that for a short time the right side of the rod is covered by the hand. Maybe that is when the work is done? In the Sewell ...

Re: Magic Wagon's The Magic Gemstone & Hieroglyphic Spells
The KT auction item is the Leon Improved Glass Penetration. At one time I had the exact item. There is also a ribbon that runs through the cabinet (front to back). A hook is used to pull the ribbon. I recall that not all rods can be inserted at the same time. Even in the photo, there are 4 holes in ...

SimonC, thanks for setting one aside for me. I have no preference in style because the effect is more important than style. However, I kind of like the mahogany. John, I have purchased 3 of the Danis items. He is a super nice person and his effects are very nicely decorated. I don’t recall the prices and I think you have to contact him to obtain prices and shipping from France. I don’t think his effects are revolutionary, but based on older effects with some...

I think a combination of soft coins (glass slides out) and hidden by hand. Middle portion is now empty. The Wonder Window principal is then used (small portion of glass sides out from side). The panel holding the 3 rods hides the meeting point of the small glass panel. Probably some magnets might be...
