Re: Tenyo's 'Scope of Magic' set

I wonder which effects are included in the set. I see two that are partially identifiable.

Impossible Pen and Twister aka Pencilia

What would be a reasonable price to buy these two effects without the box?

Tenyo's 'Scope of Magic' set

Does anyone know about these sets. They come by year. Do they contain the tricks released in a particular year but sold as one package? Is there year index available?

The search for the mysterious Tenyo

A book by Jorge Luis Borges, 'Labyrinths' might be a great resource for those who like to weave mystical or whimsical themes into their performances. It is a collection of short stories, for which some, question what it is to have knowledge of something. For the magician, it could produce a treasure...

Roberto,
I really like the drawing you use in your profile. It has a mystical element to it.

Re: Cuba Libre

Roberto,
That is the effect. I saw a performance another side. Do you think it is made of cardboard with a decal attached?
Thanks,
David

Re: David and Felderswynne my evil twin

Dear David,
I appreciate the advice. I do prefer to buy my tricks loose because they are often cheaper, and too, I will probably misplace the empty packaging. There should be a magic effect (if there isn't already) called scatterbrain :?

Cuba Libre

Hello,
An interesting effect with a long lineage. Does anyone know where you might purchase the plans. Also,I saw an effect, 'Oh Mummy', appears not to be a trick, but I like the graphics. It is extremely cheap, so is it constructed of cardboard?

Hello-
I have heard about the Mystery Triangle; it sounds clever and if can locate one loose but is in good shape, I will get it.

Some Tenyo or other effects that need to be invented

The White Hole: The effect where small objects are placed in a box or tube and vanish and appear in another place.
The Super Boson: where pieces are apparently glued together by the magician but when the effect is given to an audience member, he tries and fails.
Okay everyone you're next...

Re: An interesting book on the history of magic.

Dear John,
Are you familiar with 'Hoffman's Modern Magic', available as a reprint from Dover Publications. As I recall it focuses on the professional magicians of the late 19th century.

Re: Melissa & Doug

Hello everyone
Are the two sets pictured above the same-do each of them have the mummy sarcophagus? I collect props and this is really an attractive set and would be nice to display.
Thanks,
David

Nu Way Color Changing Records

From the videos on Youtube, it seems like a great effect. Does anything about it? How is it constructed? I see there is a China-Store knock off of it already in production.

Are the pictures shown above the Melissa and Doug 'Deluxe Magic Set'? There is also M&D 'Incredible Illusions' Aren't all their sets constructed of wood and hand painted?

An interesting book on the history of magic.

There is a book: 'Magic' by Hopkins that is a fascinating read if you have an interest in the history of magic. The book originally published in 1902 and reprinted since, reveals many common stage and carnival effects of the era. The magic of that time would probably not fool a modern audience, but ...

A humorous and absurd Tenyo performance

Because Tenyo effects are built small and there are so many variations on standard effects, one might be able to work up a vignette such as "performing three Trisectors", (a chorus of Trisectors) Of course, there could be a vignette titled "4 zig zags in three acts" with the magician frantically sea...

I found another place: Plaza Japan. They were slightly cheaper than Tokyo Hobby but they convert to YEN which incurs a charge.

Buying Tenyo from Japan

Hello Everyone,
I was curious if it is worth it to buy Tenyo directly from Japan? I am unfamiliar with custom duties, so does one pay more in the long run. If anyone has thoughts on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Those tell tale noises

I remember reading about a plains, native American tribe that had some interesting shamanic practices. One custom required the constructing of a large tent for the shaman to use while performing sacred rituals. Because inside the tent was regarded as a sacred space, only the shaman was allowed entra...

Prison Box

I really am stumped by this effect. Does anyone know why Tenyo discontinued, what is in my opinion, an undisputed classic? It seems many of the sought after effects have become discontinued. Another rare effect, 'Eyes of the Idol' has peculiar humor to it and I cannot think of another similar type t...
