How Does One Carry?

As I am acquiring more Tenyo, I have vastly underestimated my ability to store all these things!

I only have 4 tricks, but my Vaultz Medicine Case will run out of space quick once I get Crash Dice on board.

So to you fellow magicians: How do your tricks travel?

They don't travel a lot, but when I went to France this summer I placed them in a little, black, sturdy suitcase. Not all were Tenyo by the way.
At my home the tricks are in my display cabinets.

I have what I England is called a man bag. (a manly handbag) it's a small canvas shoulder bag with lots of pockets and compartments. it makes them easy to carry, easy to organise and also more natural to perform. like David it's never just tenyo in there, but often a couple of decks, a couple of packet tricks, a couple of tenyo and a few other marvels. it's my 'go' bag if I ever go to the pub or a party or something.

I always have a deck of playing card and a thumbtip.
How about impromptu trick ? What kind of impromptu trick you like to perform ?
Many of powerful impromptu magic available like twisting arm illusion, spoon bending and hundreds more :) it helps us a lot to save space on carrying prop.

Whoa! It's funny you bring this up, I just got a new case for my Tenyo YESTERDAY and was going to take some pictures and talk about it in a day or two once I'd had more time to work with it!

I too was looking for a case to store my tricks in. I'd previously been storing them on bookshelves in my office at home but I've already LOST some stuff (side note: anybody got a spare pen for "Invisible Zone" they'd sell me?).

I started looking around, googling "magician's close up case" and stumbled on several cases for sale like this one from Murphy's Magic for over $100 USD. I knew I'd seen this type of case before and I knew they weren't prepared in any way to be "special" or "JUST for magicians", so I hit-up eBay. I ended up finding the case pictured below FOR LESS THAN $40 USD including shipping. What I like about this particular case is that it has an extra drawer, almost like a secret drawer accessible only from the back where I've put all my gimmicks and things that the general public shouldn't see.

I've managed to squeeze about 20 Tenyo in this case, with a LITTLE room to spare (but not much). I suppose I'll start rotating them out and storing ones I regularly use in the case while keeping ones I'm currently not performing for friends & family back in their original boxes.

But I can't say enough good things about how happy I am with this case so far. If you just search eBay for "makeup train case" you'll find PLENTY of them for sale in all colors, shapes and sizes at awesomely cheap prices and I'm 100% sure they're the exact same things sold by magic shops for 2x or 3x the price...

Good case Mike! It looks awesome and professional! Very sleek case too!
As for me, I don't take my tenyos out anymore... Ever since I brought my unusual suspect out and accidentally dropping it on an edge and making a HUGE scratch not the front of the jail bars I wanted to cry so badly!
So now I am very reluctant to bring them out:( I just invite people if I want to show my tenyos

I like what you have there Mike.

What ever case you use, make sure you get a bag tag from Simon. This one looks great and has my contact info engraved on the back in case it is lost or stolen.

Just remembered I had this case in my shed. It's an old (big) cigar box, I took the handle off a microscope case and hey presto!

the case looks very good!
sometimes I'm jealous of people here who have good craftmanship!
I would love to make something for tenyo! ( like your wooden tenyos and tag, Johns TAD, Robs Skill Babe)
people here all have a brilliant mind!

You make me blush a little Shan :)
But I only started making own magic tricks when I was 58, so... despair not, your time will come too! :)

That (those) old cigar box(es) actually look like the packaging of very old Tenyo magic sets ... .

Right now, I'm working on the impromptu tricks with a deck of cards and a half-dollar coin.

All I have is a revolution deck cut and a sorta fast coin walk

I don't even know how to do Invisible Deck yet.

Deck of cards and half dollar....hmmm...perfect props for doing matrix / coin assembly ;) Seems that you are interested in flourishes, card and coin moves. Dai Vernon, Michael Ammar, Dan & Dave, David Williamson David Roth, Ponta the Smith, could be a good reference to learn close up impromptu magic. They are all the specialist.
Invisible Deck is a must because it is one of the strongest mental magic ever invented. It is affordable, easy to perform and it is powerful effect for the laymen. I think there are already enough tutorials available in the youtube ;)

My tenyo is stored in my man cave it's in storage boxes on my magic shelves, boxes which I got from staples I have 4 full boxes with every effect printed off the tenyo blog. So I can cross ref any effect I own. Used to store them in a clear filing cabinet but ran out of space. The storage boxes are perfect

I believe you misunderstood the question Jay Adkins, the question was: how do you carry your magic props with you when you leave home?
