EOTI Colours

Post by SimonC » Tue Aug 06, 2013 1:04 pm

Ahoy hoy, I finally gave in and bought EOTI, I noticed the jewel case is a very light grey, and I've only ever seen black ones on the net. Has anyone else seen one of these?

NO, that is rare as well as the Black Moai.

Most times with variations in Tenyo tricks, one color is not any more rare than the other, but in this case I would say you have something rare. I can say this because I have seen very many Eye of the Idol in person and on Ebay and I never saw a gray case. The black Moai I have seen.

I recently updated the Prop Variations page on my website with pictures. Check it out.

Sweet! I did think it looked a little odd. Would you say it increases the value at all?

I guess so, and the seller lived literally 10mins away from me, mental. Could've been literally anywhere in the world and it was in the same town as me. Spooky. I'll have to go and find an old lady to help across the street to balance out the universe

Doesn't the bottom part also look gray in that picture maybe not as light as that top but figured that might be a flash lighting anomaly thing going on there.

Does the bottom look like the right color for the regular box to you?
Top does look lighter. Hummm

Do you have a picture of a Chinese version of this?
I didn't know there was a China version.

I'm sure yes, I've seen the other version (in the flatter, standard tenyo box) and this is the much better quality kind. the idol is black too. And the tray is neon pink. Ok I lied about the tray ;)

I think David De Tenyo is just breaking your chops.

Here is a picture of the Chinese one from his site http://www.tenyo.be

The jewel case is black not light gray.

Ok what does your box look like I have only seen the flat box gold sticker.
My cover and crystal box is black, idol is gray.

Hummm that Chinese one looks too good it could fool someone not knowing to look for the Tenyo name on the bottom of the crystal box.

Does the china one work ok?

Richard your box is the classic Tenyo "Blue Box" which they also used for T-168 Floral Fantasy.

Tenyo also used the Blue Box many time for their professional line of magic released only in Japan.

Before the Blue Box was the Brown Box with the reptile pattern like seen with English T-Numbered tricks T-81 Space Walking Coins and T-82 Spinning Plate on Rope. They also used the Brown Box for many tricks that were released in Japan.

Also Before the Blue Box was another Blue Box with the letters of the English alphabet in a gold script font along with a leaf pattern. This was never used for T-numbered tricks, just Japanese professional magic.

Before the Brown Box was a Light Gray reptile patterned box.

Before the Light Gray reptile patterned box was plain white boxes or brown craft boxes.

And there may be more than what I mentioned here. That is just quickly what I know of the top of my head.

From the article on www.tenyo.be (it is quite a few articles down, scroll to find it, it is worth the read)
"The base of Eye OTI has scratches., the statue has traces of glue on the side and it doesn't work OK."

David, you should reorganize your website so the articles can be linked to and easily found.

What one did Simon get sounded like it isn't a flat box.

I got the blue box. I actually owned the crappy version a few years ago (and crap crappity crap it was) crystals didn't fit (too tight so idol moved around as you took them out) ay was scuffed, idol didn't lock/unlock and felt like it was about to break all the time, crystals had very obvious sprue marks, and the markings on top,of the jewel case were barely legible. And the instructions were all over the shop.
Funny story, I'd made a box to keep the parts in, and had it on my desk at work, waiting for art working. Came in next day, and it had been thrown away. Was gutted as the trick still essentially worked, but in the long run did me a favour as I now have the proper version. But yes, the one in this box (see attached) was more disappointing than transformers 3.

Actually that looks the the box for the Genuine Japanese version:
http://www.tenyo.co.jp/magic_en/catalog ... l#Anchor02

I think the fake one was much cheaper looking but I can't seem to find a picture of it at the moment.
I was thinking about getting one way back when but passed based on the fact that I couldn't get any of their other tricks to work (Crystal Cleaver, Squeeze Play, and even Krazy Keys).

I did manage to get two genuine EOTI.One with the gray jewel case and one black.I didn't realize one was rarer than the other.I guess it's good to know.

The one I lost came in the box above but the whole thing screamed knock-off to me, I did buy it on eBay tho and it was very cheap. Lesson learned there.

Yes - but it does take a lot of time to add a new section since all is written in basic html and I have to adjust every page when I make a new section ... . Stupid of me to build a website like this, I know ;)

A litle 'index' header on the top of the homepage would be a better idea perhaps, with links to the different articles.
Need ... time ... .

Just to clearifiy, the Chinese version doesn't work good because the m*****s aren't aligned properly. If I remember correctly the number "3" always made the statue turn the wrong way ... .
And everything Simon mentioned too ... .

You can add anchors by each article and do a simple old school hyperlink menu on the top.

| Article 1 | Article 2 | Article 3 | Article 4 | etc ...

http://www.echoecho.com/htmllinks08.htm

I used WordPress to make my Tenyo Website. It is similar to phpBB where it is free and open and works in the cloud. It took a little bit to get going with it, but it is so easy for me to make changes and additions now. WordPress is known for creating blogs but can be used to create websites too.

I can help you through it if you decide to go with WordPress.

Another thing I just remembered about my eye of the idle was that two of the crystals had freaking bubbles in them. Kind of blew the mystique a little. I should've said they were from the lost city of atlantis

That's him!thats the one officer! Is it a 'pirated' version or did tenyo just lease out to a low quality manufacturer. Avoid this box! It was my first lesson in eBay fakery

I believe the Eddy's products were still manufactured by Tenyo and just re-boxed by Eddy for sale in Hong Kong. I am pretty sure they said made in Japan and had Tenyo's logo on the back of the box.

The one above says "Made in China" on the back.
