New Tenyo Items Shown in Japanese Magazine

Post by Richard Kaufman » Sat Aug 06, 2016 11:32 am

Below are two pages from the magazine MONO from Japan. They show three of the four new Tenyo items in step-by-step photos. For some reason the right side of the images is getting chopped off, but you'll get the idea.

The only one of the four new T-numbered tricks not shown is Kenicihi Komiya's trick in which a tube magically rolls over a row of cards until it stops on the previously-chosen card.

And yes, Mr. C, there is a photo of Tenyoism there. Has it resulted in a flood of orders? No.

Comparing with magic puzzle existed in the market, seems that tenyo has merged some pieces to reduce the complexity. If I see it correctly, all pieces incl. The frame come into a case with a drawer which is very pack flat and easy to transport. If this is true, this is really good. But which method Tenyo is using to execute this trick, I hope it will come with the most practical one and everything can be fully examined by spec.

The ghost leg is really interesting. It feels like searching vault secret combination in order to open the vault. But only the owner knows ;) I love this kind of ingenious prop.

I made a merlins elixir style puzzle in a small tray last year, kicking myself I never thought to send it to them now! I hid the other pieces on the lid, in the shape of an '!'.
Ghost leg looks right up my street, looking forward to that one :)

My understanding is that Tenyo has some new ideas on the Winston Freer puzzle. Most examples of this use wooden pieces, and an extra piece is hidden inside one of them (which has a hollowed out area for this purpose). As you can see in the photos, these pieces are made of translucent acrylic, so you can see through them. Since no sleight of hand is likely to be involved, it appears they've found a new way of hiding the extra piece.

or maybe just secretly palm "it" and we are clean, as we can see here as an example:

I didn`t know that Winston Freer is the inventor of this version but the other famous tile puzzle. There was another chocolate version for the tile puzzle which I think pretty cool:

Don't confuse the two different puzzles:

The first is based on the Principle of Concealed Distribution, which is ancient.

The second is the Freer puzzle, which takes the ancient puzzle as a starting point and adds extra pieces which are concealed so that it is impossible to figure out or reconstruct.

Yes Richard, they are two different puzzles with 2 different methods. Sorry if I make it confuse by mixing them. The "Principle of Conceal Distribution" sounds really interesting and I never hear that before. Another clever works I love the Masao Atsukawa`s Warp 9 and Fair Exchange. Completely different method but really2 clever. I`m still wondering how the japanese with their genius brain and came up to brilliant ideas :) I assume, this is one of the reason why you wrote many books related to magic from Japan.
