Best/worst Magic Works exclusive

Post by Brett H » Thu Mar 16, 2017 5:15 am

Forum seems to be in a bit on Magic Works.

All right. Looking at the whole collection, about 1/3 of it is non-Tenyo Magic Works exclusives, also made by Mark Sudecatti. Here's the list:

- Eye of the Pharaoh
- The Hidden Sun
- Secret Slate
- Missing Masterpiece
- The Map to Skull Island
- Tongue Tied
- The Great Escape
- Ghost Deck
- The Invisible Hook

I'd eventually like to get all of the exclusives. But I've only had my hands on 3 of them (Pharaoh, Ghost Deck, and Map).

My favorite of the exclusives is Ghost Deck due to the principle and just how it works. It's worth a look.

Eye of the Pharaoh, despite it being something I wanted as a kid and never was able to acquire, it let me down. It's really quite awkward to handle and the color of the 'eyes' could have been done a lot better.

So. For those of you that have some of the exclusives. What's your take?

Best: Hidden Sun and Tongue Tied
Worst: Crate/The Great Escape (it's just a puzzle box sold for a few bucks here in Belgium)

I really like them all.
I would say the one I do the most is Invisible Hook. It is basically your standard prayer vase in a different shape but it locks. So although it looks real simple every time I do it, spectators can try all day and not figure it out. Drives them bonkers. :)

I would agree with David that the worst is Great Escape since it more of a puzzle than a magic trick.

By the way Ghost Deck was created by Dan Harlan as was originally released as "Missing Think".

Tongue tied could of been a tad better prop, Missing masterpiece...I found a knockoff that fantasma released in dollar tree stores and it was better in a way because the gimmicked tray was snug and did not fall out like the official one does, so that kinda pisses me off. Invisible hook is a great take on a classic that makes so much sense! I lost the original leather rope and used a piece of plastic rope, which I found out sucks and does not grip the gimmick well so I went and bought a leather shoelace to replace it. Map of skull island is a good one. I`m awaiting for a hidden sun to come in, Ghost deck can be good or bad, depending on the situation, eye of the pharaoh, like Brett said, awkward. Secret slate...meh, this one can sit on the shelf, haha, and yes the grate escape is a glorified puzzle box, but the plastic quality is better.

That's one seemingly small paragraph packed full of usefull information - thanks Jeff :)

I bought the Map Of Skull Island from Jeff (great price, I own you one Jeff ...) - there are other ('clock') effects like this which work more or less the same way, but I don't own any of them, ... .

I have a question:

Invisible Hook. I know it's a rubber fish. After all these years, had it aged well? Do they have cracks and show signs of age and wear? Or does it depend on how it's been stored all these years?

They are just as Damn impossible to find as money morph. I saved this fish from my dad because he loved fishing and he had it as part of his fish collection and thought it was a toy. Hah

I haven't stored it in any special way and it perfectly fine. No cracks and still works fine.
