Re: This one baffled me...
The sword does go around the other way so quickly you cannot see it. It is a very clever thing.

W H A T ???? So the sword is quicker than the eye!!!!!!
But when I play with it over and over, I just can't believe it! My eyes and brain say something different!
YET your explanation should be right, but this is then an extremely deceptive item!

Re: This one baffled me...
Thank you very much for this link Bob, this DVD set on old apparatus is now on my wish list! This is actually a very valuable piece of magic history!BobD wrote:It is a very baffling trick indeed, the method is very clever. I think it is an old but not well known trick. Tora has a version of this trick but the Rubiks Cube in his set cannot be threaded on the wand at the start of the routine. The trick is explained in Tony Hassini's DVD Set on apparatus magic. http://www.imsmagic.com/Magic_Shop/DVDs ... _Magic.php
Re: This one baffled me...
It looks like a real magic. Never seen like this before. I`m totally baffled

If this thing is really that good, practicable and easy to perform, I think this will probably become the best trick to end year 2014

No idea Bob. Is it strong enough to hold everything ? I think magnet.BobD wrote:IT?
Re: This one baffled me...
Looking at the note
It is required some distance between you (performer) and spectator (audience) because of the nature of the gimmick. Parlor sized show is recommended for this magic.
You could be right Bob

Re: This one baffled me...
This one is certainly one of the worst videos I've ever seen. I am sorry, but I couldn't find a worse video than this one in my collection. Why some people show-off merely when they've got nothing in their kitty.
Re: This one baffled me...
Hi Randy Magic, welcome aboard. May I know which video you are talking about ? The latest one which I posted ? I still didn`t get your point why the trick looked bad for you. For me, the magical animation is perfect. The kids would love such kind of trick even maybe adults. And the trick is temporary sold out as proof that the people`s interest for the trick was quite high.RandyMagic wrote:This one is certainly one of the worst videos I've ever seen. I just saw the daruma trick it's really cool! I think there may be a tread behind the performers ear?

Re: This one baffled me...
I must admit that after seeing the demo video of Daruma the performer lifts his head to let the magic happen, and his basic position is that he bends over. So I believe that is what RandyMagic meant.
Then the question arises: how practical is this trick in performing it impromptu?
Personally I am not very fond of IT, but maybe that is because I'm not very handy with it
But good performed, this is a great effect!

You and Randy could be right. Thanks for pointing this out. I was focusing only to the puppet. Maybe there should be another hook up method, so the movement will be not through the head or ears and the body. I believe IT will not strong enough to hold everything and another special thread should be used for it. It reminds me to Wacky the worm trick. It came with stronger IT.

A complete guess: (I have never seen this until now)
Both holes are real. A sliding plate on the front of the stick slides to cover one hole, and, at the same time the hole at the other end is revealed. A reverse slide of the sliding plate returns the stick to it's normal state.

Re: This one baffled me...
A YouTube subscriber from my channel asked me if I have this trick:
Die Würfelkaskade - ZZM Promo: http://youtu.be/DfA_Az3hl0Y
I don't have it, and 800 euro is a lot of money, but it does baffle me. Although it is more a puzzle than a magic trick.
Is there anybody who has this one?
And: wouldn't it be nice to be able to make a mikro-version of it?

I've worked out how it works, nice concept and I'm sure it could be made smaller. cool trick

Re: This one baffled me...
OK you worked it out Simon, great!
Also the colour changing at the end?
It's actually more a puzzle isn't it?
It must be one whole, except for the small die?

Re: This one baffled me...
If you look closely you don't see the top surface of the bottom 3 dice, that's because they are all shells ie they don't have a top or bottom surface. I imagine there is one central column that is the same width as the smallest die which they are attached to with thread to keep them in line (the thread may not be necessary thinking about it). This colum would be the height of the final stack minus the height of two of the smaller dice (there is a duplicate smaller die at each end).
Alternatively, the column and the largest die are as above, but the middle two dice may infact be columns too. I'll need to make one to tryit out.
The colour change is simple, it's all about the angles. Notice he flips the box a different way before the change? He's discreetly turning the stack a half turn as well as up-ending it. Basically two sides of each die are black and white and the other two are in colour. (Notice the top of the smaller die at the end is black still)
I may have to get my scissors and glue out and give it a go. You could make this one rob no probs
Edit: one small die is all black, this can be shown freely before the colour change. Also the lid has a square ridge on the inside Middle the same size as the smaller die which helps keep everything in line when flipping.

Re: This one baffled me...
Apologies for the sketch but it's 5:30am and I'm doing it on an iPad. This is how it works, no thread etc, just three shells of increasing height over a central column as described above. Turn them upside down and they'll slide down and look the same.

Very clever Simon, I'm quite sure your explanation was correct. I've seen 1 version also with colorful cylinder (close up version), forgot the name already and I'm quite sure it works with the same principal.

Re: This one baffled me...
Aha! Simon that's amazing how you figured this out!
It actually reminded me of children's blocks of different sizes/heights I once saw in a toy shop.
That saves me 800 euro! Although I would never buy this.
Thanks anyway, maybe I will make a small version!

Re: This one baffled me...
Yes, this is spot on and based on an older version with cylinders. I don't know how he can charge 800 Euro for this??

I love the simplicity of this effect and the great surprise finish. Very nice effect, and a small version would be cool!

Yes Peter it is a cool effect. Maybe I make a mikro version of it!
Perhaps you could make a wooden version??
