It looks like ivory, but I still didn't manage to open it.

It is a Japanese box, meant to store this insect:

The picture is one side of the box. Try pressing "B" and "C" or "D" and "A" with the thumb and middle finger.

Bob thanks, but it didn't work. You should be able to open it on 1 short side (the left side on the picture) and then you can slide the bottom part out. That was the case with the other cricket boxes the shop sold. There was also an 8 cornered box with 4 compartments to put 4 crickets in it, then you'll hear a cricket chorus.

it's crickets chirping, played alongside the same track but slowed down. it sounds rather beautiful :)
