This trick is missing a good routine. It needs an add-on like I have made for other Tenyo tricks. My idea has always been a set of cards related to the X-files TV show and the odd subjects of the shows.

I agree. It really needs a more interesting routine other than simply guessing the cards. The gimmick is very clever. The problem I have with this trick is that whenever i do it people want to see the back of the stand. And once they the back they want to see what is behind door number 1.

I love the look and function of this one, it feels like a genuine piece of spy gear. I think john is right about the routine, MRI pretty much took this trick and made it more performabke.
For the idea and workings I do love it but I have to say I don't perform it. Although I may blow the dust off now and see..

I like this trick but you guys are right, it's 'dull', there are other ways to reveal a chosen card. Heck, just use a marked deck and you can do the same without the akward looking apparatus.
MRI also is a good alternative as mentioned.

This apparatus has to be take 'a step further' with a good routine. Start with marked deck and X-Ray file. Spectators not convinced ... . Do MRI, spectators still not convinced. Now do without apparatus, spectators might be convinced :)

What also would be nice if it were easy to take the envelope of the stand and start with envelope on the table (don't show back ;) ). Put card in, 'seal', occasionaly put it on the stand which might be examined in advance. But I believe the envelope is hard to take from the stand ... I still haven't unpacked my tricks so I'm not sure.

Waiting for X-File cards which are plain white or black (or any other color) on the back so spectators are convinced the cards are not marked ... made by one of our creative members :)
Perhaps a bit 'over the top', but there are one-way see through films. Show card, let it be examined. Take one-way see through paper/film and show you can not see through it (correct way up ;) ). Place paper/film in envelope, card in front. And so on ... . Doable? I don't know! The special films/papers do look suspicious of course :( Heck, the whole thing would scream 'gimmick' ... Ok forget it, I'm just brainstorming here

i love mentalism tricks but this item didn't amaze me much, can't perform surrounded by spectators.

Great observation, it is almost the same trick.

Now thinking of them in comparison I think X-Ray file is better.

I've never used my MRI, I find of the two X-ray file is more inconspicuous and looks less like a prop for a props sake. I don't use either much tbh but I do like them both as they're very sneaky :)
