Tenyo 2019

Post by Elliot W. » Tue Jun 12, 2018 2:23 pm

The upcoming tricks were shown at the Tokyo toy show.
I found a twitter user that posted some videos of the tricks.
There are 6 of them this year although I would not be surprised if one or 2 of them don't end up being released.
Don't know how long the videos will stay up up you can check them out here for now:

Cool!!! This looks like a pretty tasty crop, some real Tenyo-Esque items there. But 6 items?!! That’s going to be expensive ;) I’ve seen the silk through mobile before it’s as good as it looks, super visual. Excitzing stuff, great detective work Elliot!

Thanks for sharing those Elliot!

I suspect that they are prototypes so may look different when released. In any case, I agree that they do indeed look Tenyoey and interesting. I especially like the star and circle reversal (the method seems obvious to me but will fool spectators) and the chocolate bars trick.

Looks like a great lineup! I really like the mobile phone, chocolate and bill ones. Could be a very strong year.

They all look good so I cant wait to get them.
I have a couple of versions of silk through mobile phone but they are badly made so The Tenyo version will be guaranteed better quality.

WOW! The 2019 effects look great. I can’t wait to see what the final releases will be and what possible modifications will be made to them.

After 3 years of “prediction ‘till you puke”, we finally get a Tenyo lineup where not only do we get 6 T-series, but there’s not a prediction effect in sight! Hell the inly time a decent cards get used is when a handkerchief is fed through it’s keister. So that made me smile a bit.

Also happy that we aren’t getting Mentalism Series 3...or so I think. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the series. But after 2 straight years of predictions tricks galore. We need a smoke break.

- Magical Chocolate 2 - Electric Boogaloo: my daughter LOvES this one. I love “food magic” and this one is super visual and impossible looking. This is on my list.

- Dice Matrix - Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but this seems like Tenyo’s first go at a Matrix Assembly. I’m really excited about this one.

- Cell Phone Handkerchief - I’ve been seeing this sort of trick done on Instagram ad nauseum with different props. I’m glad Tenyo is doing this one because I know they’ll get it right and I won’t have to worry “which company has the best variant”. This is my least favorite of the bunch because, at least from where I’m sitting, how can you justify pulling a handkerchief through something? I don’t know. It doesn’t seem like something I’d utilize. But Inknow a lot of other people who would love this.

- Van Gogh-a-go-go - I’m on the fence with this one. It’s a neat effect, but it all seems to happen really quick. And I have a feeling it’s angle sensitive.

- The ‘Ol Ring/Star-a-roo - If this could go back in time, this trick would have been part of the Magic Works line. I’m so freakin excited about this. It’s like a kidney punch in the nostalgia!

- Ineffective Counterfeit Printer - money effects are neat, and this is does the unusually thing of taking printed money and erasing it. It’s a neat effect, but I’m not with it for some reason. If an audience member can do the erasing, then I’m getting one.

It appears that there is going to be a mostly black prop theme for 2019 like they did, for example, in 2003, 2004, and 2009.

It doesn’t look like the bill erasing trick can be done by a spectator and it doesn’t appear that they can even handle the prop unless you can ditch a special something first.

As will many other years, it will take some time for me to actually know which ones I will like. It’s a back and forth thing for me. Then, I see Roberto and/or Japanmagic demos and end up liking all of them. :D

For several years now, I have become a retro Tenyo guy. I know there are others who feel the same way. But, I do like to see what they come up with each year. I actually really liked the 2016 line of mentalism effects.

So...I was thinking of doing the preorder thing and get them all in one box..I know a few of you have done this before....so how do I go about doing such a thing? Specifically from where?

I think SEO Magic does this.

At any rate, if you buy a bunch at once, you can also opt to get the +1

I must admit Jeff im tempted this year too. Lots of scope for these getting the jenzo treatment too so could justify it as an investment ;)
I think Brett should contact Tenyo directly with his names for the effects ;)

I agree, we could use some catchy names instead of Magic This and Magic That which tenyo has been using lately. ;)

I've preordered from amiami.com before. You can probably preorder from Amazon Japan as well.
I think Seo is the only one that will get you the plus one trick though.

At this point I think i am liking the chocolate and money ones simply because I am not quite sure how they are done.
I think the silk through phone is a nice illusion and perfect for the World's Greatest Magic series.
The ring and Star trick reminds me of the old style Tenyo. Especially Merlin's Coffer. However unless I am guessing wrong the mechanics seem rather simple. Although I think it can be used for other routines as well.

Keep in mind that these are prototypes that Tenyo test runs at the Toy show. So the designs or routines might change. So they might not be all black boxes by the time it gets to stores.

I think that the ring and star trick uses a very simple method and can indeed be used with other objects as long as they are flat and a similar size. Great potential IMHO!

If Seo offers the new +1 trick option again, I am thinking that is the way to go.

Thanks for posting that Victor! I am very interested in three of them, especially the chocolate bars trick.

So 2019 may be an interesting year for Tenyo!

By the way, the chocolate bars outer wrapper looks very much like that of the chocolate puzzle which I believe was made in China. I wonder if any or all of Tenyo’s 2019 releases are going to be made in China.

No Steve, it looks like the +1 from last year Magical Chocolate. The puzzle one looks different. But I am afraid you are right, probably some of them are being made in China. Like the smart guillotine last year.

I’m waiting until SEO Magic has it as you can get the +1 through them.
