There were at least two variations to the prop and the packaging. The one that I show on the sister site seems to be less common. The more common one is the bright green prop with package that is similar to what I show but colored differently. The Doug Henning Sets came with the bright green prop. Tenyo also released this trick in Mexican packaging.

Like a lot of older Tenyo this one was copied a lot and I probably saw some rip-offs before seeing the Tenyo version. So I guess I saw it as a pretty common trick and wasn't that amazed. Still it is very cleverb and looks great. I have a used version of this where the gimmick sort of got stuck and requires more force to move. I kind of like it better because it is actualy examinable.

I love the development story about this trick in Tenyoism. For those of you that don't have the book yet, in the riginal prototype the plastic did not extend past the ends of the blade. The blade just stuck out on the sides. This worked fine when placed on a table but then Mr. Yamada ( The president if Tenyo) came in and tried it while holding it in his hand.Let's just say some band aids were needed and it was decide to extend the plastic to go past the blade ends.

Elliot basically said it all ... .
Quite some time ago, on my website I believe, I wrote you can see the See Through G. in action in the movie The Tommyknockers (based on a story by Stephen King) - see here and set at 38:51 8-)

I have heard with some mini guillotines, they can occasionally go wrong, and actually hurt your finger (I recall someone mentioning it on the Magic Cafe I think). Does anyone know if there's anyway for the Tenyo version to accidentally hurt someone, or is it just the knockoffs?

The development and subsequent design (due to the safety concern) is outlined in Richard's book, Tenyo-ism. It explains why the plastic edges were extended to cover the visible ends of the blade. I can only imagine what it felt like to watch the boss cut himself on the prototype.

I'll have to try and check his book out sometime. While I obviously want to avoid hurting myself, hurting one of my volunteers is one of my biggest fears.

You won't hurt anyone with the Tenyo version. There is a built in safe-guard (the extended plastic edges that cover the tips of the blade).
