Dong Bang Shin Ki Rising

History

Dong Bang Shin Ki is a five member Korean band that dances, sings, and acts under the SM Entertainment label. Dong Bang Shin Ki debuted in December of 2003 with their single "Hug" and released their first album in 2004. In the same year, their official fan club, Cassiopeia, was also created. Most of their music is mainstream J-pop or K-pop but DBSK also has several acappella songs.

In 2005, Dong Bang Shin Ki spread their influence and career into Japan. DBSK released their second album, Rising Sun, that same year. In the end the year, TVXQ received the Best Music Video award for the song "Rising Sun" and the People's Choice Award at the 2005 Mnet KM Music Video Festival. During that year, on June 14, 2005, TVXQ displayed their rising popularity between Koreans when, along with BoA, they were appointed as PR spokespeople for the city of Los Angeles in the United States.

In 2006, DBSK tried to spread their influence further in other East Asian countries. They held their first Asian tour, Rising Sun First Asia Tour, were featured on commercials, and made guest appearances in Malaysia, Thailand, China and Japan. Then they prepared for their first tour in Japan in promotion of their first Japanese album Heart, Mind and Soul. DBSK performed at A-nation, an annual Japanese live summer concert organized by Avex Trax that features J-pop artists in the record label. DBSK was the first Asian group to win two Thailand Music Awards for both Best Music Video for their music video, Rising Sun, and Favorite Asian Artist. Another award they won was the Popular Vote Asia Artist award at the Virgin Hits Awards 2006 in Thailand.
DBSK then returned to Korea to work on their third album, "O" - Jung Ban Hap, which was released in September 2006. In the first month of its release, the third album surpassed the 100,000 mark in South Korea. Currently, it has sold over 330,000 copies, making it the highest ranking album for 2006 in Korea. The DVD All About TVXQ was released in 2006 also and was so successful that a sequel DVD was made and released in 2007. At the 2006 MKMF Music Festival, DBSK won four awards including Best Group and Artist of the Year. At the 16th Music Seoul Festival, they won three awards including Daesang, equivalent to Artist of the Year followed by another Daesang at the 21st Golden Disk Awards 2006, in addition to a Bonsang. They also received awards at the SBS Gayo Awards 2006 in which they were awarded the prominent title of Daesang and Bonsang.

In 2007, DBSK released their second Japanese album titled Five in the Black. They concentrated on their popularity in Japan. In April, the members began hosting a weekly radio program called "TVXQ Bigeastation" on Japan FM Network channel, which is currently being aired on seven local FM stations. The group represented Korea on MTV's Video Music Awards Japan and won the 'Best Buzz Asia in Korea' award in May as well.
