ADVANCE STAFF REPORT
The Monsignor Farrell freshman football team put the finishing touches on a dominating season on the gridiron yesterday with a 22-7 CHSFL victory over Holy Trinity that earned the host Lions the division championship.
The Lions (8-0) -- who were awarded the freshman title based on regular-season power points -- faced their first deficit of the season trailing 7-6 at the half, before Marco Boshnak (160 rushing yards) returned the opening kickoff of the third quarter 84 yards for his second score of the afternoon.
It was the first time we were down all year and the kids really responded well, said Farrell head coach Gary Romeo. We dominated the second half defensively.
Fred Petersen, Lou Durak and Jonathan Reid each recovered fumbles for the Lions, while linebacker Evan Gambino hauled in an interception and tacked on a 34-yard TD run.
Quarterback Ryan Dowd connected on 8 of 10 passes for 140 yards and the offensive line was anchored by Conor McElhearn, Mike Craine and Rocco Mattariello.

Our nephew, Henry Dingman (#70), plays on both the offensive and defensive lines (OT/DT) for the Monsignor Farrell Lions. We are very proud of Henry and his fellow teammates and coaches.
February 25, 2006 - Henry was named Most Consistent Offensive Lineman at the Monsignor Farrell Annual Football Awards Dinner.
