Last night I was fortunate enough (thanks Mrs Craze) to spend an evening at the Magic Circle HQ in London. I was watching a close up magic show, four different performers doing different styles. It was great to see some classic tricks performed to an audience in the flesh and see the reactions. I learnt a lot about misdirection. I spoke to a magician called Matthew Garrett who was very friendly, got some good advice

So now I have a new goal, not just to have an effect made by Tenyo, but also to become a member of The Magic Circle, my journey begins!
Now you see me...

I believe becoming a member isn't very easy ... I think someone needs to invite you? And you have to do kind of an exam/performance to demonstrate your skills? Not sure ... . In any case, good luck Simon!

I've actually looked into this when the Missus and I we're looking into moving out of the States , but since you actually live there; much more feasible.
Check out the Magic Circle website, as there actually is an exam you need to do for acceptance. It gives you the criteria they are looking for for the entry exams.
One thing to keep in mind: they have seen EVERYTHING. They are checking that you can be entertaining while you do a Double Lift. But you have to do it for 10 minutes.
On top of that, you do have to have a co tact within the circle that'll take you up as an apprentice. And I think that goes on for at least 2 years.
Good luck!
Where's my colon?!

Great, Simon! I hope you can achieve both goals!
So the admission in the Magic Circle is somewhat similar to the one at the Magic Castle? Concerning this last one, I read that sometimes they interrupt the candidates in the middle of their presentations. It does not necessarily mean that the candidate was very bad. In the book "Sleights of Mind", the authors (two medical scientists) report that they were admitted, even though their presentation was interrupted. The judges had already seen that they were good!
