This is amazing you can check that it is true by using a picture editor with color picker or eyedropper tool.

I made the checker board with extra 3 gray squares.
Print it default or 8.00 X 11.00 inches it should print right.
Although it won't work as is it has to be modified.

Now if the illusion only required the proper lighting to make it work you would be set.
it's impossible to work as it is without modifying it.

The squares actually get darker gradually to the middle as in fake shadow.
The color picker tool says that diagonally a little more than half of the gray squares are black surrounding the diagonal middle white squares which are actually gray. I don't know how to fake shade this checker board grid as I don't have photo shop to try it. If you know how to layer a translucent fake shadow across it diagonally to make it work then use it. Moai could be placed on the corner in place of the cylinder to give the illusion that is where the shadow is coming from would make it even more mysterious. ;)

What I just tried was print the real above illusion twice and cut out one of the gray squares from one to use. It works just like the video so it has nothing to do with the lighting in the room. Unfortunately it isn't square cause the picture is at an angle.

Let me know if anyone gets a square one to work.
I know Simon could do this easy. ;)
