The Greatest Magician In the World
Today I saw and purchased this book in my local bookshop:
Matt Edmondson /Garry Parsons - The Greatest Magician In the World, in Dutch:
De beste goochelaar van de wereld
https://www.bookdepository.com/Greatest ... 1509806188
I bought the Dutch version :
https://www.amazon.de/beste-goochelaar- ... 9026146647
It's really a lovely book. It reminds me a bit of the well known Setteducati book, because enclosed are envelopes with tricks in it, but it's primarily a story about a kid who wants to become a magician.
The illustrations are beautiful, and the price is a bargain.
Really a very original book with surprisingly well designed tricks inside.

I am happy to have followed my impulse and order the book as well. Today it arrived, and I was very happy about it. I wonder how such an elaborate book can be so cheap. The included tricks are simple, but so beautifully presented that this is a refreshing encounter with magic. An enrichment for the enthusiastic lover of magic moments.VictorS wrote: I just placed my order too. Thanks a lot.

Re: The Greatest Magician In the World
My book came today as well. It's a very nice book and well-illustrated. All of the tricks are very easy to do. Among the books of this type (and they are all good), I would rank them in this order:
1) The Magic Show Book by Anne Benkovitz and Mark Setteducati
2) Illusionology: The Secret Science of Magic by Albert D. Schafer
3) The Greatest Magician in the World
1) The Magic Show Book by Anne Benkovitz and Mark Setteducati
2) Illusionology: The Secret Science of Magic by Albert D. Schafer
3) The Greatest Magician in the World

Re: The Greatest Magician In the World
Yes, for clarity, these are three I have in my collection that I would group together and my personal ranking preference. The Setteducati book is very hard to beat. I am sure there are others.Olaf S wrote:Hi John, do i understand it right, the other mentioned books by you are similar made ?John B. wrote:Among the books of this type, I would rank them in this order:

Regarding #2, the series is excellent in general, but Illusionology focuses on Magic and magicians. I have the one on Greek myths, Egypt and a few others in that series. They are very well done.
Re: The Greatest Magician In the World
I found a video of this book where all the tricks can be seen, you're right, it's a very good bookJohn B. wrote:The Setteducati book is very hard to beat. I am sure there are others.
but I personally don't like the graphics so much but that's a matter of taste. The book is also
hard to get new at an acceptable price. Do you still remember the original selling price ?
Re: The Greatest Magician In the World
Yes, it was around $20 USD when it came out. I bought a used one a few years back. A new copy is very expensive these days.
The other thing I like about the Setteducati book is that a lay person can go through the book on their own and fool themselves without ever figuring out the tricks. They are all basically self working.

I bought the German version for 5,- EUR at that time, over 15 years ago in Hugendubel book store if you are familiar with. I bought several books, sold em partly and gave it to friends as a gift. I only have 1 now . They were so many in the stack of books and they are still brand new sealed. I should buy more...hmmm but you never know.Olaf S wrote:John B. wrote:Do you still remember the original selling price ?

Re: The Greatest Magician In the World
Hi Olaf, I tried to search ebay.de and look what I found :
https://www.ebay.de/itm/Die-Zauber-Show ... :rk:6:pf:0
Unfortunately it`s not as cheap as I mentioned before. You will get the ISBN number in the link (just scroll it down to the product description). Good luck.

The front cover looks a bit different but the content seems to be identical except for the
german translation which is even more pleasant for me. I will search now for a good copy
Re: The Greatest Magician In the World
You are right, Olaf. I have both version. The only differences are the front cover and the language. The content is the same.
