LESSON TITLE: I am an explorer

 

NJ CORE CURRICULUM CONTENT STANDARDS: 3.2

 

FOCUS DISCUSSION:

  Discuss and review what students have learned in history about different explorers

 

OBJECTIVES: SWBAT apply knowledge of explorers to a journal writing assignment

 

PRE-REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE: none

 

MATERIALS:

  Instruction Sheet

  Excepts from Verrazzano’s Log

  White lined paper

 

DESCRIPTION OF LESSON:

Teacher Will:

• Explain to students the requirements and aid students throughout the assignment

 

Students Will:

  Imagine they are an explorer they learned about in history.  They will write five journal entries pretending to be that person.  They will include facts and details learned about in history as well as provide anecdotes in their entries.  When all entries are complete students will make authentic looking journals.  They may stain paper with tea bags, burn the edges, etc.

 

ASSESSMENT:

Completion of assignment including all required evidence and/or examples
